SC notifies to the Central Government and Manipur regarding AFSPA-1958
New Delhi, Oct 19(UNA): A writ petition which was filed by demanding the withdrawal of AFSPA-1958 from Manipur and quashing of disturbed area by ex-Director of Health Service, Manipur, Dr. Th. Suresh Singh was heard at Supreme Court of India on Friday.
Dr. Th. Suresh Singh, ex-Director of Health Services, Manipur, who filed a writ petition (C) No.444/2012 to the Supreme Court of India on 19th Sept, 2012. Was heard today by the double bench of Justice Aftab Alam and Justice Mrs. Ranjana Prakash Desai and on the petitioner’s side, Sr. Advocate Jaideep Gupta and Advocate Sapam Biswajit represented in the hearing.
The prayer was to withdraw of AFSPA, 1958 from Manipur and quashing of disturbed area (excluding greater Imphal area) notification in Manipur.
The court was kind enough to issue notification to the concerned parties i.e. Centre and Manipur Government. Details of the Judgement are still awaited.
Mention may be made here that demanding the repeal of AFSPA-1958 from Manipur Irom Sharmila Chanu has been fasting for more then a decades now and many civil organization also use to carry out protest against it.
