Massive protest rally against illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Guwahati
Guwahati Sept 6(UNA): The North East Students' Organization (NESO) in collaboration with the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) took out a massive rally in Guwahati on Thursday in protest against the recent episode where a person from the North East region has been discriminated in the mainland India.
The massive rally was participated by thousands of people including students from different parts of Assam and other North Eastern states where they gathered at the Latasil ground in Guwahati to take part in the rally. Leaders and supporters of students’ organizations from the seven NE States have also take part.
AASU president Sankar Prasad Roy and its general secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi said that there is an urgent need to build a united struggle to throw out the foreign nationals illegally staying in the region particularly the Bangladeshi.
Earlier NESO decided to challenge the Assam government's recent appeal against holding of rallies and processions of today and said that it would go ahead with its scheduled rally against illegal migrants and to protest against the discrimination of NE people by the mainland India.
The Assam government had appealed that processions, rallies and protest marches, bandhs which have the potential to exaggerate tension and disturb the social fabric, should not be undertaken for a period of month.
