12hr Bandh affects Normal Life in Manipur
Imphal, Sept 6: To mark a protest against the inhuman and discriminating treatment, both physically and mentally towards the people from the north east of India regardless of age, sex or profession by the mainland India, the "Total Bandh" called by the North East Students' Organization (NESO) paralyze the normal life on Thursday.
The bandh which stared from 5 am in the morning till 5 in the evening in all the north eastern states also affects normal life in Manipur. All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) who are supporting the bandh burn tyre throughout the state. Some bandh supporters were apprehended by police from Singjamei, Imphal west district and from Bishnupur district area.
Showing steadfast support to the North East Students’ Organization (NESO) and its protest against racial profiling against the Northeasterner, the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) a member organization of NESO observed the 12-hour total bandh in the state.
Altogether, 9 bandh supporters were apprehended by police during the bandh. Normal life and daily routine of most people in the state remained crippled and affected during the 12-hour state-wide general strike. Other civil societies supported the general strike and all major transports including, inter-state and inter district passenger vehicles remained off the roads, shops and business establishment remain closed.
Educational and entertainment institution centres and most offices also remained closed during the 12hours general strike called by the AMSU.
However, no untoward incidents were reported during the bandh. Except for a few security personal and official vehicles government were seen plying during the general strike.
