MSL: Police win with huge margin


IMPHAL, September 5: The Manipur Police Sports Club, MPSC thrashed new comer J Songtun Youth Club, JSYC by 5-0 today at the ongoing 7th Manipur State League tournament at the Imphal Mapal Kangjeibung.

MPSC controlled the match throughout the entire 90 minutes and scored four of its five goals during the last 45 minutes.

M Somochandra Singh scored the first goal of the match in the 18th minute.

The first half of the match ended with MPSC leading by 1-0.

Ksh Elvis scored an own goal in the 51st minute to help MPSC expand the lead.

Ksh Elvis while trying to clear a volley from MPSC striker M Somochandra headed the ball inside the nets.

M Somochandra scored his second in the 56th minute through a spot kick.

The match referee awarded the spot kick after the JSYC goalie fouled against I Nilakumar in his attempt to block the striker.

Henry CHawang scored the fourth and the fifth goals for MPSC to seal their second win in the ongoing league.

Henry scored his first in the 69th and followed it up with another in the 78th minute.

Thanglal Kipgen of JSYC was cautioned during the match in the 16th minute.

In his post-match media briefing, MPSC manager H Gyaneshow Singh said though his team had won the match with a big margin, he is nonetheless unhappy and unsatisfied with the way his players played today. There is a lot of room for improvement in his team, he said and added he wants win from all the remaining matches of the league.

He continued that the he will have a meeting with his coach to chalk out the team strategy for the upcoming match.

Team captain, Ksh Kanta Singh said the JSYC players were down after their own goal and failed to get up again, which helped the MPSC team.

He continued his team had no coordination in the first half of the match; however there were improvements in the second half.

JSYC, Assistant Manager, Binod Upadhya said being the team’s first edition; the team has been unable to get any good players from outside the Sadar Hills.

He said his team played well in the first half however, the team failed to continue in the same vein in the second half.

He said the absence of a coach in the team bench has also greatly affected his team players mentally and physically who are new to the league.
