IMPHAL, November 29: An all political party delegate of the state led by the state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh will be reaching New Delhi on December 1 to pressurise the Central leaders to take up talks with the Myanmar government on the disputed border fencing issue  at the earliest, said Manipur state unit Janata Dal (United) president M Tombi.

Addressing media persons on Friday at the party’s Babupara office, he also demanded strict action against the Jemadar of the 8th Manipur Rifles who was arrested yesterday along with a huge consignment of illegal drugs.

Reacting strongly against the reported involvement of the security forces in illegal drug trafficking, he said the most challenging issue at the moment for the state is the ever increasing presence of security forces both state as well as central in smuggling of drugs along the Imphal-Moreh road since the past few years.

He further expressed the immediate need to take up steps to safeguard the future generation from the issue.

Even as all sections of the society led by several civil organisations have been agitating and demanding action against all those found involved in drug smuggling cases, which includes several well placed individuals, police personnel, family members of high ranking officials and individuals, none of the drug smugglers arrested have been given any befitting punishment, he said.

Elaborating on the syndicate of the drug smugglers along the highway connecting state capital Imphal to Myanmar through Moreh, he said once the illegal pseudoephedrine tablets ate illegal transported into Myanmar by passing along the NH 2, the components of the tablet will be extracted and used to produce another tablet- the World is Your (W/Y), which will be later transported back into Manipur along the same route.

Unless the issue of drugs is controlled at the right time, the day is not long when the state, which is known throughout the world for its sporting prowess, earns the nametag of “Drug House”, he said before adding that it would be very disappointing.

The JD (U) state president also demanded befitting punishment against all those who have been arrested while smuggling drugs.

He also demanded befitting punishment against all of them who were arrested by the police on various drug’s related cases of the state.

Meanwhile, coming to the border fencing issue, he said that the all political party delegate led by the state chief  minister will discuss the issue with the centre, he said.

He continued that the state unit of the party will also discussed the several issues of the state with its central leaders.

JD (U) MPs will raise discussion on issues of Manipur during the upcoming Parliament session starting December 5, he said.

The JD (U) Manipur unit president also lamented the state government for not inviting the leaders of the various political parties to the Sangai Festival.
