7366 duplicate voters in 40 assembly constituencies


IMPHAL, October 5:  Following the special summary revision of electoral roll as directed by the Election Commission of India and led by Chief Electoral Officer, CEO, Manipur, out of the total 60 assembly constituency, 40 of them reportedly contained 7366 duplicate electors, sources said.

Speaking to IFP, Assistant CEO Bono Singh at the office premises of Chief Electoral Officer said the special summary revision of electoral rolls will be a month long exercise and it began on October 1 and will continue till October 31.

Out of the 60 Manipur Assembly constituencies, 40 of them were filled with duplicate electors. The duplicate electors cross the figure of 7366 and were detected by using Picassa software. The figures fluctuated due to crossing over of electors through different assembly constituency. It is likely that the duplicate electors are likely to increase in the next few days.

The assembly constituency with the lowest number of duplicate electors were at Lamlai at Imphal East district with one while the highest number was found to be at Kangpokpi at Senapati district with a total of 891.

Assistant CEO, Manipur while speaking to IFP was optimistic that the launch of the current special summary revision of electoral rolls will prevent any crossing over and avoid duplicate electors.

The identified constituencies with duplicate electors include Khundrakpam-24, Heingang-12, Khurai-10, Kshetrigao-4, Thongju-20, Yaiskul-10, Wangkhei-2, Jiribam-9, Keirao-71, Andro-6, and Lamlai-1.

The crossing of voters were found in Thangmeiband, Uripok, Sagolband, Keisamthong, Singjamei, Sekmai, Lamsang, Konthoujam, Patsoi, Langthabal, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, Wangoi and Mayang Imphal.
