2 AR personnels injured in Imphal blast


Imphal, Sep 5: Two Assam Rifles jawan were injured in a suspected Improvise Explosive Device (IED) explosion which took place just 100 metre away from Raj Bhawan in the heart of Imphal city this morning at around 8.40 am on Wednesday.
Policemen inspect the damaged vehicle in the blast at Keishampat Junction.
The suspected IED was fitted in a scooter bearing number MN/04/1242 and the blast occurred when the Assam Rifles were on there routine patrol duty on foot at Keishampat Junction, the injured were rushed to RIMS hospital of which one is said to be in a critical condition said a police and a doctor at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
The two injure jawan belongs to 28 Assam Rifles posted at Singjamei’s Chinga post, Imphal west.
The powerful IED blast at Keishampat junction left two security jawan of AR injured and causes damaged to many vehicles parked nearby.
According the police officials the blast went off at around 8:40am at Keishampat junction just a few feet west of the traffic point. The powerful IED which fitted in a scooter moped could have triggered more human casualty and damage if there were more crowds.
The two 28 AR injure were identified as Virendra Kumar (32), Rifleman no. 8551774 from Himachal Pradesh who is said to be in a critical situation and Rajendra Kumar (40) Rifleman no. 2851020 from Uttarakhand both of them belong to A Company 28 Assam Rifles.
Usually Keishampat junction use to be crowed but today the crowds fewer due to the morning shower.
The injured security personnel were immediately evacuated to the RIMS hospital by state police commando’s who are present at the time of incident.
In the mean time decrying the bomb blast the residential of Keishampat stage a sit in protest at the bomb blast site.
Till the filing of this report no one has claim so far.
Mention may be made here that on September 3 a 23 year old youth was killed in an IED blast at Yairipok in Thoubal district.
