5553 candidates file nomination papers

IMPHAL, Aug 3: Altogether 5553 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the ensuing Panchayat Elections scheduled to be held on September 13 next month.

According to the notification issued by secretary of state election commission Th Chitra on July 27, the last date for filing nomination papers for Zilla Parishad member, Pradhan and Gram Panchayat member was today.

A total of 282 candidates filed nomination papers for Zilla Parishad member, 713 candidates for Pradhan and 4558 candidates for Gram Panchayat member in the four valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur.

The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on August 4 while withdrawal of nomination papers will be till August 7. The polls will be held on September 13 from 7 am to 4 pm and votes will be counted on September 17.
