Women protest against price rise

IMPHAL, June 13: Hundreds of women today took out in the streets to air their voice against the sky rocketed price of essential commodities in the state and burnt effigies of traders.
Women from different places participated in the protests which were taken up at Lamboikhongnagkhong, Lamsang Keithel and Leirenkabi in Imphal West.
A sit-in protest was also staged at Lamboikhongnangkhong participated by leaders of Lamboikhongnangkhong Apunba Nupi Lup and a number of other local women.
The women shouted slogans like “No to price hike” and “Maintain public order,” and they also held placards which read the same.
Agitation against price rise was also took place at Lamsang Keithel where women from Haorang Shabal, Mayang Langjing and Taothong participated. They burnt effigies of traders and chanted “We will not allow selling of goods at increased rate” and “There should be a government which works for the welfare of the people.”
In Leirenkabi Lamkhai, local women staged a sit-in protest at Lairenkabi Lamkhai Bus Shed. The protest was participated by a number of women from Singda Bazaar, Kadangban part-I and Part-II.
The demonstrators also shouted slogans against price hike.
At the same time, the Maoist Communist Party, Manipur (MCP) had recently announced to impose a general strike against price rise in the state.
