Maiden success in serial blast cases; Police nab rebel behind Pallel blast

IMPHAL, November 10: The state police finally tasted success in booking the perpetrators of the series of bomb blasts that went off in Manipur with the arrest of a Prepak (Pro) activist involved in the Pallel bomb blast on November 6 last.

He was nabbed today by the commandos of Thoubal district police, conveyed a press release issued by K Meghachandra Singh, SDPO.

Acting on reliable sources, under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police of the district a team led by inspector Ch Anand Kumar rushed to Langol Khunou area of Pallel at 2:30 am and conducted search operation at the house of DS Arun Maring alias Khununglakpa, 36, son of Modun DS of Langol Khunou, it said.

In that operation, an unknown person was found inside the house. Seeing the police party, he tried to run away but the police team overpowered him. He was identified on the spot as Modersim DS alias Nathal, 41, son of Modun DS of Langol Khunou. Modersim further stated that he joined Prepak (Pro) under the roof of CORCOM under his younger brother Arun Maring who was identified as a self-styled Lance Corporal of the party.

He further disclosed that he collected four IEDs from Khudhei Khullen under the instruction of his younger brother and self-styled Captain Thoudam Jiten, son of late Th Nabadweep of Maibam Leikai, Imphal West.

The four IEDs meant for targeting non locals in Pallel area were kept in his home out of which three had been taken away from him by his brother and exploded at Pallel on November 6 last as a part of CORCOM’s attack on non locals, the release conveyed.

After the blast, the remaining IED was handed over to Morungpham, son of late Korang of Minou village so that the same can be used in another attack on non locals in Pallel area, it said adding that the police team along with him rushed to the house of Morungpham and conducted search operation there.

As expected, one black polythene bag containing the remaining IED weighing about four kilograms which was marked as ‘MFD by: Dept of Defe RED ARMY PREPAK’ along with a remote control device was found at 4:20 am concealed inside a wooden box kept in the bed room of Morungpham.

Therefore, Modarsim D S was arrested from the house of Morungpham of Minou village and the IED along with the remote control was also seized at 4:25 am.
