Hill districts will have B.Ed colleges : Education Minister

Imphal, November 9: Caucus 2013 the 4th Academic Programme of All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) under the banner theme “Endeavoring for a Peaceful Society” was held on Saturday at Hotel Imphal where Kuki students’ Organization, Imphal host the programme.

Gracing the function as a chief guest Education Minister M Okendro appeals and urges the ATSUM by saying that they have a big role in bringing back the lost peace, love and bond that ours forefather use
have in the earlier day.

The Education minister further inform that four new colleges will be open at Tamei in Tamenglong, Tipaimukh in Churachandpur, Phungyar in Ukhrul and Sugnu in Chandel district and at the same time polytechnic institutions will be open in all the nine district of the state with different stream in each district.

And the long demands of hills students bodies of opening of B.Ed colleges hills district will be open by the end of this year added the minister.

M. Okendro further appeals for the reconsideration over the banning of National Project in the hill district by a student bodies.

Giving his keynote address, the ATSUM president Emboi Serto said that ATSUM’s first and foremost priority and agenda as a students’ body is Education so we are organizing today programme.

During his nearly 30 minute keynote address the ATSUM president stressed on the demands of the students’ body for the upliftment of Tribal student in the hills, but apart from this Enboi Serto also stated that the only tribal common platform ATSUM cannot focus only on Education and students related issue, which compelled to take up various issues of the tribal of the state.

The ATSUM president also highlighted on verious problem faced by the tribal people’s in the state as there is no good teachers for Maths and Science in hills district schools, the need of separate Directorate of Education (S) to look after the hills districts exclusively and the Assembly that has 60 seats, 20 went to ST but the actual number reserved is only 19 but in terms of geographical area the valley which is represented by 40 MLA’s is smaller the Phungyar A/C alone.

In the afternoon Caucus 2013 a seminar was held in three different session, in the first session topic was Devolution of Powers or Greateer Autonomy in the Hills Problems and Options, where Dr. J. Doungel, head of department, Political science, Mizoram University participate as a resource person and BD. Behring, former MP and S.K.

Victor, Consultant MACS joined as a panelists. The second session was held under the topic Education-Issues and Challenges in the Hills and the third session was held under the topic Peace Education with special reference to the Tribal Society.
