Steel Minister Visits Poland
New Delhi, October 29: The Union Minister of Steel, Beni Prasad Verma led a delegation to Poland to strengthen ties between the two countries in areas of steel making and coal mining. Shri Verma met the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy, Republic of Poland, Mr. Janusz Piechocinski at Warsaw on 28th October, 2013.
While interacting with Mr. Piechocinski, Verma said, “There is tremendous potential for Indo-Polish cooperation in the steel sector. Indian companies can collaborate with Polish organizations in the coal and steel business”. He further added that both countries can learn a lot from each other’s expertise and strengths.
Speaking about specific areas of cooperation between India and Poland, the Minister of Steel said that Polish mining companies have the technical knowhow of developing and operating deep-coal mines. He emphasized the need to develop coking coal mines in India with sustainable and environmentally friendly and clean coal technologies. He said “If Polish mining companies can share this knowledge with Indian counterparts, it will benefit both the countries”.
Mr. Piechocinski, appreciated the economic growth in India under a vibrant democratic set-up and spoke about the harmonious partnership between the two countries, highlighting areas of cooperation in IT, agriculture and processed food product, training of Indian professionals in mining etc.. He also mentioned that Indian companies have made significant investments in Poland and mentioned that he would want more of these companies to make similar investments.
The delegation led by the Minister of Steel,Beni Prasad Verma comprised Secretary, Ministry of Steel, G. Mohan Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, U.P. Singh and Chairman, SAIL, C.S. Verma.
