North Eastern Council Announces Rs. 40.00 Lakhs Cash Award for Ms. M. C. Mary Kom
New Delhi, August 13: In order to support and acknowledge the excellent sport persons from the North Eastern Region, the North Eastern Council had constituted NEC Chairman’s Sport Award for Excellence wherein achievers of the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and National Games were felicitated and given Cash Awards.
To acknowledge the hard work put in by the achievers of the just concluded London Olympic Games and also to extend a congratulatory note to Ms. M.C. Mary Kom for winning the bronze medal of the 51 Kg category Women’s Boxing, the Minister of State (IC) for DoNER and Chairman of NEC, Govt. of India, Paban Singh Ghatowar announced Rs. 40.00 lakhs cash award for her. The same will be handed over to Mary Kom by the DoNER Minister himself in a felicitation programme to be held on 16th of September, 2012 at Imphal, Manipur.
NEC had taken steps for promotion of sport activities in the North East by supporting the National and Regional Tournaments held in the North East for different sport events such as Football, Archery, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Athletics, Cricket for physically challenged sport persons, Chess etc. The NEC is also sponsoring young and promising sport persons in different fields.
