No development possible without peace, unity: CM

IMPHAL, December 7: The success of all steps taken up by the government or those taken up the public themselves depends on unity and peace, stated Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singn today.

Lamenting further, he said that the actions of the anti-social elements killing anyone without any chance for justice should be condemned at the highest level.

A man’s life is a debt to death, and noone will be immortal like the Gods and even without the killings everyone has to die, he observed.  Rather than kill someone, it would be more beneficial to find his crime and reveal it before the people, the CM stated.

While stating that killing someone without proper investigation and by blaming him of a crime is a bigger crime, Okram Ibobi appealed to the people to come out strongly and unitedly against this culture and usher in peace and development in to the state.

What has happened in the past is past, now the people need to forget and forgive and not allow such brutal killings of someone to happen again, he appealed.

Elaborating further on the issue, he observed that killing among us will never bring any solution.

If anyone believes killing will bring change and development in the society, than he should be man enough to announce it, and if he cannot do so than he should not carry out such crimes, the CM called.

People in the hills and the valley are one and brothers and sisters, he said before adding the two can never be separated.

The Chief Minister further appealed to all to united face anyone trying to break the unity and integration of the state.

However, this does not mean people should kill one another, he quickly added.

Both the government and the militants are powerless without support from the general, he observed.

The government and the armed outfits cannot continue long against the general public, both need to go along with the general public and understand the needs of the public, he said.

State Education Minister and president of the Moirangthem Ibotombi Memorial Trust, M Okendro said the day is being observed every year with the aim of bringing peace and development not only in the Heirok area but in the entire state.

Trust secretary M Rameshwor also spoke at length about the observation.

The chief minister led the council of ministers, MLAs and other officials in offering floral tribute to a picture of the late former minister.
