Trinamool Congress to raise border fencing dispute at Parliament

IMPHAL, November 26: All India Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’ Brien has pledged to raise the issue of the controversial Indo-Myanmar border fencing for discussion during the next sitting of the Parliament, stated president of the state unit of AITC, Kim Gangte, today.

Addressing a press conference at its office at Hotel Excellency today, Kim said during his recent one-day visit O’ Brien informed that party MPs will be bringing up the issue during the winter session of the Parliament which will start on December 5, 2103.

She said, on August 7 last a team of state leaders went to Delhi and discussed the matter with the national leaders of the party. Later, a delegation comprising of both national and state leaders met the Prime Minister and submitted a memorandum on the matter.

After returning to Manipur, the state unit of AITC approached the state government and gave suggestions on convening a all political party meeting to discuss the controversial issue and adopt a concrete resolution, she said.

Kim added the border dispute is a political issue and it has to be tackled politically through the constitution of the strongest team co-opting members from different political parties. However, the Chief Minister did not pay heed to our request at that time, and the government took more than two months to take up the same measures, she added. She rued that till now the state government has not succeeded in bringing about any notable development. She said, Trinamool Congress stands for the people of Manipur and will protect every single inch of land of the state and its boundary.

It was learnt that the all political party forum will be sending a team to Delhi on December 1, 2013 to pressurize the Central government and president on the border fencing issue, she said. The party will be taking part in the interest of the state and the safeguarding the state border, the state unit president said.

On the other hand, Trinamool Congress is irritated at the present law and order situation. She expressed that the law and order situation of the state has completely gone into smoke. We need to impose President Rule in the state for some time for the welfare of the people, stated.

It is very unfortunate that sometime we get afraid on the security personnel. It may be question that are they deployed for secure to public or harass public. We often heard some crime involving police personnel like extrusion and rape etc. In this situation it needs to give a correct report to the centre.

Expressing her objection to unfriendly behaviors of the security personnel, she asked whether they are being deployed to give security to the public or harass them. She mentioned that the security forces are involved in crimes including extortions and rapes and linked the degradation in policing to the wrongful practice involved in their recruitment which she said is determined by bribe rather than qualification.

Recently, a news report informed that an incident of collapse of ceiling at RIMS Hospital injured a woman who was undergoing treatment at the hospital. She said that RIMS is an esteemed centre for medical treatment in the whole of north-east region but for diagnostic test they are usually referred to private clinics.

She questioned the use of developing the infrastructure at RIMS and asked whether the administration of the institute is in the hands of a responsible person.  Regarding the RIMS issue, we urge the Governor of Manipur to kindly look into it, Kim Gangte appealed.
