ATSUM and tribal people will not support the agitation under the code name ROTO

Imphal, November 11: The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) has appealed to the govt. of Manipur on a various issues for the last many years and today the govt. has already sanction for the construction of Polytechnic colleges for Senapati and Bishnupur district for the first phase which the rest of the district will follow soon said a press communiqué signed by its general secretary Marahang Ngiimai on Monday.

One of the long demands of the ATSUM, B. Ed Colleges in the entire Hill district is already approved by the central govt. and the construction will be started before March 2014. The govt. also promises to look into the shortage of teachers in the Hills especially Science and math teachers very soon added the press communiqué.

And under RUSA there is also programme for developing the infrastructures of Higher Sec. Schools above all these four new colleges will also be opened at Tamei, Tipaimukh, Phungyar and Sugnu and also the govt. will look into the various problems face by health centre’s in the hills promised the Education and CAF & PD minister govt. of Manipur stated the communiqué.

At the same time the press communiqué also stated that they are compel to issue this press statement as the tribal people have been misled and misinform about the various issues demanded under ROTO by some individual under the name and style of ATSUM. We acknowledge that some groups of people have form a parallel ATSUM and we have even initiated to find ways and means to bring this disgruntled group to the mainstream. While initiative is going on we much not disturb the atmosphere by calling bandhs and blockades and other form of agitation like banning of all national projects in the state of Manipur.

The ATSUM is not supporting the govt. but if the govt. accepts our request than we should also have to be thankful. The demands are all genuine but we also have to know that all the demands cannot be granted at one go and should give sometime to the govt. too add the communiqué.

Under the code name ROTO (Reckoning Of The Others) agitation called by the so called ATSUM need not call any type of agitation. The name (ROTO) itself does not merit the style of agitation call for. Instead they should be mobilize the people and enlightened them about the tribal issues, so we therefore reiterated that this banning of national project will not be supported by the ATSUM and the tribal people said the press communiqué.

In the meantime the ATSUM also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh this afternoon demanding to issue a corrigendum for repealing the ORDERS of 17th March 2012 and 12th June 2013 and give full authority to the respective ADCs in the upcoming recruitment for the 898 post of Chowkidar-cum-peon.

The memorandum also stated that if at all the govt. insists on conducting the DPC by strictly following the 200 point rooster than what is the use of having the Manipur Hills Area District Council Act. The govt. must also understand that ADC office is not a department but an Autonomous body which have its own Act and rules.
