UNMM appeals armed groups to refrain from gunfights
“UNMM is worried about the fight which also led to the fear psychosis in the mind and lives of
the people specially the innocent villagers and Children are afraid of going to Schools”, it said.
Villagers are also extremely frightened to go to the field and other places for their livelihood. The village headman of Punornram, Kathing Comfort, 45, son of K Sangam and James Nambashi, 37 son of Chinaochin, a truck driver have reportedly been apprehended by the 27th Assam Rifle, posted at Kashung village, Indo-Myanmar border under Kasom Khullen Sub-Divison without giving the arrest memo, it self. Both of them were tortured and harassed during interrogation, the UNMM alleged in its release.
“Such kind of issue of fighting between the two political Armed Groups had occurred in
the past as well. Many innocent villagers were killed and many were tortured by State forces and
many children are still facing serious problem of the insecurity of life”, it said.
UNMM call upon and request the concerned armed groups not to fight in and around the
villages. “We humbly request to all the concern authority to protect the lives of the civilians and
follow the International Humanitarian Law in the war situation. UNMM also urge to the 2ih AR
to release the village chief without any harm and delay”, it said.
