ZYF Gaan Ngai wishes
IMPHAL, Jan 28: In a press release, the Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has conveyed its heartiest greeting to all communities in the state and particularly the Zeliangrong people on the occasion of 'Chakan Gaan Ngai', the greatest living festival of the Zeliangrong people of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, which begins on January 25.
Saying that it is the festival (Ngai) of Gaan (Dry or Winter Season), also known as the Chakan Gaan-Ngai, the release added that it is characterized by making of traditional sacred fire, Ho-hoing (invocation), worship, offering, rituals mingled with traditional song, dance, games, feasting and entertainment.
Meanwhile, the state level Gaan-Ngai 2013 Celebration Committee, under the aegis of the Zeliangrong Union (AMN) has appealed to all concerned not to call any bandh/strike of any kind on January 25 in view of the Gaan Ngai Festival and enable the eople and all well wishers to celebrate the festival in a grand and befitting manner.
A press release of the committee has further urged all Zeliangrong people to come in their traditional attire in keeping with the solemnity of the occasion.
Meanwhile, in separate press releases, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee United Committee Manipur and All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation has also wished the people of the state especially the Zeliangrong communities on the occasion of Gaan Ngai.
It has further said that this year’s exchange of gifts for Gaan Ngai will be held at Major Khul, Imphal on January 27.
