ICC and DoNER Ministry to host 8th NE Business Summit in New Delhi


Guwahati , Jamuary 3, 2013: The Indian Chamber of Commerce in association with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government Of India has been organizing North East Business Summit since 2002. The 8th edition of the summit will be held in New Delhi, on 9th & 10th January, 2013. Various Ministers and stalwarts from the industry are expected to attend this two-day summit.

Given the vast availability of natural resources and attractive tax structure specially designed for the region, North East India, comprising of 8 states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura & Sikkim today appear to be major growth areas of the country. The region boasts of 38% of hydro-power potential of the country, abundant natural gas reserve, nearly 900 million tonnes of coal, an estimated hydro-electrical potential of 49000 MW and over 500 million tonnes of oil reserves.
The tea industry of North Eastern Region is the world’s largest tea growing zone having 16% share. It is the largest producer and exporter of tea from India with a market share of 55%. The literacy rate of the region stands at 79.64%. Organisations planning to set foot in the region gets a virtually tax – free fiscal package.
The North East Region with its rich heritage of artistic craftsmanship and handlooms also offers unlimited tourism potential for wildlife, adventure, eco-tourism and pilgrimage. The region is culturally rich with many historical sites. The government is open to investors who in turn will develop world class tourism destinations. Individuals.
