There is right to respect other identity – RK Meghen


GUWAHATI, November 8: UNLF Chairman RK Meghan alias Sanayaima and 17 others except N Dilip @ Ebochou @ Mani who is undergoing treatment in the hospital, were produced today before the NIA special court Guwahati. No witnesses were produced today.

 In a quick briefing with the chairman RK Meghan, the Chairman stated that there had been 17 years long for the peace talk between NSCN IM and GOI. He elaborated that NSCN-IM were fighting for the sovereignty of the Nagas but later they demanded for the integrity of the Naga inhabitant within the NE states of India within the ambit of the Indian Constitution. He further stated that the ploy that the Indian Govt. is making is nothing but to divert the conflict that has been between the people of the WESIA and the GoI being transformed into conflict along the ethnic lines inhabitated ages in the region.

UNLF Chairman calls for the unity amongst the Western Southeast Asian (WESIA) and development as such in the region. He further stated that in a multi-community region, the idea of peace cannot be achieved without having considering the collateral damages of the secondary conflict that emerges out of the “meaningless peace process”. He added that an agreement might be carried out with one community but it will not serve even basic social problem and relation with the neighbouring communities in the region could not be attained. He further said that the WESIA need and should co-exist with interdependence and co-develop together.

Sanayaima said that NSCN-IM lone peace talk will only deteriorate the unity and strength in the region and shall even bring misunderstanding amongst WESIANs. He added that this peace talk even brought chaos within the state of Nagaland and that the demand of alternative arrangement in Manipur for a certain ethnic community shall not succeed and bring peace in the state.

Chairman of UNLF RK Meghan said that the people inhabiting in hills and valley of Manipur are of same soil of Manipur and need to understand the interdependence of livelihood of each other and that the people residing in the valley need to take the historical responsibility of reaching out to the people in the hills and simply voicing out the call of unity is simply a lame voice.

He concluded saying that there is equal right for self identity and at the same time there is right to respect other identities which cannot be deprived of.

A team of lawyers led by H Chandrajit Sharma who are the defending counsel of the UNLF Chairman RK Meghan and other alleged co-accused were also present for cross examination of the prosecution witnesses.
