Manipur State Commission for Women visits women prisoners

Imphal, Nov 9: A team of Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) led by the chairperson, Dr. Ibetombi and her team today visited Manipur Central Jail in order to know the condition of the under trial women prisoners.
Speaking to the media persons after the visit of the central jail the chairperson said that the MSCW has submitted 10 points recommendations to the Government of Manipur, that the government to check the unauthorised opening of Restaurants/Cafe, as it motivates the increasing rate of crime against women. It also helps for carrying out immoral activities. A mechanism is made for implementing this matter.
“Indecent exposure of a rape victim, mainly juvenile in the newspaper and to some electronic media with their details (such as father name, address) and with photos as exhibition to the public should be stopped, by the government by giving special instruction to the related agencies” added the MSCW chairperson.
A rape victim should be made to have compulsory testing of HIV/AIDS by the treating doctors at any hospital and necessary preventing measures, the state government also to include moral education till higher studies for imparting moral education, were also among the recommendations.
The recommendation further recommended that the state Home Ministry for opening of Women Police Cell in every district head quarters, the government of India under the ministry of women and child development has already launch the scheme of rape victims getting some financial aids from the concerned department. And it is now recommended that the scheme should be implemented to the state uniformly.
A special policy, benefitting women and child is required to make by the government, and free medical treatment to rape victim should be made avail in all the hospital which is run by the Central and State government.
A policy should be frame by the government so as to help in the socio-economy of women in the state and to implement a proper policy for smooth running of labour department to check child labour and women domestic workers getting violence from the house holders were recommended by the MSCW to the government of Manipur.
The recommendation was taken on October 28, 2012 where the MSCW held a consultative meeting under the theme “Meet the People to curve women and child” added Dr. Ibetombi.
Crimes against women is not a new thing for the state but during this last couple of month a new wave on crime against women took place in the state like beheaded of a women, attack on child, husband killed wife extra are a new thing for the state said MSCW Chairperson.
It is a time for the society to joint head to head and hand to hand in solving this entire problem as a single hand can’t do much added the chairperson.
The women commission member secretary S. Meghachandra Sharma said, all together there were 36 inmates women prisoners in the Central Jail.
Though the women prisoners do not have any problem inside the jail but they expressed their personal grievances to the team of MSCW, that how they will survive after released from the jail as the society will not accept them.
In this regard the chairperson assured them that a vocational training will be given and a rehabilitation central will be try to open at the earliest with the help of social welfare, and a related government agencies added Meghachandra.
