2nd Angling Festival at Kakching Lake
Kakching, November 12: The 2nd Angling Festival (Khoi Choppa) will be held at Kakching Laipham
Loknung Irrigation Tank, known as Kakching Lake on November 14, 2012 on the eve of Ningol Chakouba. Over 200 competitors from all over the state of Manipur have enrolled to participate the fishing completion. The winners of the competition will be awarded cash reward.
The first angling competition was held last year at the same lake one day before the eve of Ningol Chakouba. The Irrigation tank, known as Kakching Lake has varieties of indigenous fish. The over 10,000 public of Kakching and surrounding villages are invited to witness the festival. Ningol Chakouba is a unique Meitei festival held on every 2nd Hiyangei, the Manipuri calendar, which falls on November 15 this year, the
parents and brothers will invite their daughters and sisters for a special meal. They will wear the best dress one could. This day is considered as a special day for Ningols, mean the daughters.
In recent time, Kakching has become a tourist destiny after the development of Kakching Garden at Uyok Ching, which is an innovative of Y. Surchandra Singh, MLA of Kakching Assembly Constituency.
