50 bedded Mental Hospital at JNIMS

Imphal Oct 10: At the cost of Rs. 8.73 crore the state government will have a 50 bedded Mental Hospital at Jawahalal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS), in Imphal, under the funding of Northeast Council (NEC) said health minister Phungjathang Tonsing on Wednesday.
The health minister, while delivering his chief guest speech during the observation of 20th World Mental Health Day, under the theme: “Depression; A Global Crises” which was organized by the State Mental health department and Manipur State Mental Health Authority at JN Dance Academy.
Chief Guest further said, for the construction of 50 bedded Mental hospital at JNIMS, the state government have submitted DPR to the NEC, for the construction Rs. 7.68 crore and for equipment Rs. 1.5 crore. In a short period the said State Mental Hospital at JNIMS will be constructed.
Regarding the present health services in the state, the minister express the need of change in health sector, he said we all need cooperation of each other to bring these changes successful.
Today in Manipur the Doctor, Nurse and the Patients are seem not cooperating each other such activities should be change at the first place, and further let’s not use the words Psychiatric patient, as it hurts the patience before the treatment started, so from today lets called it mentally ill persons instead the minister added.
Manipuri is also one of the states which are ridden by depression, and when we compare between man and women, depression is much higher in women, due to the character of the men added the health minister.
During the observation, A. Bijoy, director Health Service, Prof. N. Heramani HoD Psychiatric RIMS, N. Achouba Director Family Welfare and L Surchandra retd Director Family Welfare were on the dais as president and guest of honour respectively.
