Thai team studies studied potentials of trans-national trade in Manipur
IMPHAL, Sep 27 : A 12-member Thai delegation visited Moreh and has identified the border town-ship as an ideal location for trans-national trade between India and Thailand through Myanmar.
The Thai delegation led by Director, Department of International Trade, Government of Thailand Net Priuya Kate Choom Khyio included businessmen as well as educationists.
The team stayed at Imphal till yesterday and studied potentials of trans-national trade through Moreh, said an official source.
They visited Moreh and Tamu and inspected the cross-border trade being carried out there.
They later identified Moreh as an ideal township for trans-national trade and even promised to start sending Thai products to Moreh.
The delegation met Commerce and Industries Minister K Govindas yesterday and assured that Manipur handloom products would be given mar- keting space in Thailand.
They also pointed out that trade via land routes would be advantageous to all parties if the highway from Kalewa to Monywa in Myanmar is developed properly. K Govindas informed the Thai delegates that Kalewa-Monywa section of Myanmar’s high- way is being developed by the Government of India.
Later, State officials led by Commerce and Industries Principal Secretary O Nabakishore held a meeting with the Thai delegates and discussed trade between India and Thailand through Myanmar. The State Government has decided to develop Moreh to a model township.
