Support NESO bandh: AMSU

IMPHAL, September 3: The influential North East Students Organisation, an amalgamation of main students` bodies of all the seven northeastern states has called for a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh in six states — Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya — from the 5 am on September 6 next. It will also hold a public rally at Guwahati in Assam on the issue of recent exodus of NE people from outside states and presence of illegal foreigners in the region.

The main constituents of North East Students Organization are All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU), All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), and Tripura Students’ Federation (TSF).

In connection to this 12-hour-bandh called by NESO, a press conference was held today at AMSU head office at DM College Campus.

Speaking to media persons, Thokchom Suresh, president of AMSU, has appealed to all the civil organization, meira paibi lup, students and individuals to support the said bandh.

However, the bandh will be relaxed for media persons, fire brigade, water supply, hospital duty and rituals ceremony, he said.

He further said the AMSU have also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and Home Minister to send state government’s representative to join the meeting at Guwahati.

The NESO has invited representatives of governments of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and all seven NE states and also the members of NE MPs` Forum to the meeting to be held on September 6 in Guwahati.

Further, AMSU lauded the recent steps taken up by the state government to check illegal immigrants in the state and urged the state government not to wait only for the instruction from the  Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India but to take up a long term policy to stop infiltration of illegal immigrants in the state, he said.

AMSU also appealed the landlords who provide their house/apartment on rent, not to rent their house/apartment to illegal immigrants and to conduct a thorough check of the person before renting their house/apartment etc., he continued.

AMSU further appealed the state government to make arrangement for those students who have returned home and choose to stay back as a result of the mass exodus fearing attack at some cities of the country.
