Seminar will bring improvement in present scenario of sports in the state: Bijoy Koijam

IMPHAL, September 14: The 3-day Seminar on the development of sports in the north eastern states which will begin from September 15-17 in Imphal at MFDC auditorium will surely bring improvement in the present scenario of sports in the state.

This was said by President of MOA, Bijoy Koijam at a press meet today at Olympic Bhavan, Khuman Lampak.

He further said that this kind of programme is going to be held for the first time not only in North East states but in the whole country.

He continued that North East Council provided the financial support for organizing the seminar. The propose amount submitted for the project is rupees forty lakh. Of which, ten lakh has been agreed for sanction. Now, MOA has received eight lakh as advance for organizing the seminar.

Further, giving a brief account of the seminar he said that the seminar will discuss on fourteen sport disciplines including Olympic and non-Olympic. The disciplines are archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, football, gymnastics, handball, judo, rowing, taekwondo, table tennis, weightlifting and wushu.    

Manipur is known as the sports power house of India. This small state has produced 13 Olympian so far. Our state players are also representing other states and services and won medals at the recently held Jharkhand National Games, he said.

The aim and objective for organizing the seminar is for submission of the findings and recommendation furnished for development of Sports in the North Eastern States to the Union Minister of Sports, Minister of DoNER & concern Chief Ministers of North Eastern States, he further said.  

MOA will give every effort to bring improvement in Sports in the state and appealed the general public for support, he added.

The Chief Minister had already announced earlier at a felicitation function of state Olympians that under the Ministry of DoNER a sum of rupees 100 crore for up-gradation of infrastructure in Khuman Lampak Stadium including equipment, building hall, hostel facilities etc. This will be soon seen in action, he assured.            

The press meet was also attended by secretary of MOA, L Manglem and other MOA office bearers.
