Poachers dehorning rhino in Kaziranga
Dimapur, Sep 26: In a shocking incident of a one-horn rhino shot at and dehorned by poachers even while the giant pachyderm was still alive at the Kaziranga National Park on Wednesday.
The bizarre incident took place at the Rangaraga on the periphery of the 430 sq km park. The adult rhino was battling for life with poachers slicing off the horn and one ear after the beast was shot at in the stomach.
The rhino, which was bleeding unable to get up, but struggle to fight back. The dehorned rhino have led to a nationwide outrage with viewers and animal rights groups condemning the barbaric incident and holding the Forest department responsible for such attacks.
Another dehorned body of rhino was recovered at Bagori range in Kaziranga National Park on Wednesday. This is the 14th rhino to have been poached in Kaziranga so far this year and the third in the last three days said the official.
