Panchayat poll in four districts of Manipur today

Imphal, Sep, 12: Manipur is all set for the 4th Panchayat General elections on Thursday in the four valley districts of Manipur including Jiribam. And altogether electorate, 6,15,817 out of the total voters, 3,18,122 are male while the remaining 3,33,695 are female voters are going to exercise their franchise to vote for 60 Zilla Parishad members, 161 pradhans and 1514 panchayat members.

That poll will be conducted in 1516 polling stations of which 9096 polling personnel’s will be engaged. Out of which all the polling stations in Thoubal district are under hyper-sensitive category while 8 polling stations in Imphal West and 87 polling stations in Imphal East are also under hyper-sensitive category. Others polling stations are under sensitive and normal category.

And further may mentioned those at least 231 Zilla Parishad candidates, 595 pradhan candidates and 3794 Panchayat member candidates are in the fray for this election while one candidate of Zilla Parishad of Nambol and another one candidate of Pradhan from Wangoi and 51 panchayat member candidates have been declared uncontested.

Source said that about 18 villages of Thoubal and Imphal East district which have cast their votes in the recent Autonomous District Council election will cast their votes again in the ensuing Panchayat Election.
The election will begin from 7 am and conclude on 4 pm on September 13. Any re-poll will be done on September 15 and the counting for the election will be held from September 17 said an official.
