Militant gunned down

Imphal, Sep 25:A Combine teams of Imphal west district police commandos and 18th Sikh Regiment gun down one suspected armed miscreant in an encounter this evening at around 5:40 pm at Changangei Uchekon Tata motor road near the Jamini Ashram, located under the Lamphel police station said police source on Tuesday.

Police source said that, the incident took place when a team of Imphal CDOs and 18th Sikh regiment were conducting searching and frisking operation.

Police source further said that the combine teams of the security person try to stop him for verification, however, instead of cooperating, the decease hurled a hand grenade towards the police personnel but fortunately the bomb fail to blast, but the suspect militants fire upon the police teams, in the retaliations the person was gunned down by the combine team.

The police recovered one hand grenade and a 9mm pistol beside the slain suspect militant body and also registered a case for investigation. The dead body has been deposited to RIMs morgue for further identification added the police source.
