Hill districts student bodies call 48 hours general strike

Imphal, Sep 22: Five students’ body of the five hill districts called a 48 hours total general strike in the five hill districts of Manipur against the government of Manipur for failing to issue a form and examination centre in the hill districts for TET on Saturday.
Condemning against the un-fulfillment demands of the tribal students for Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) forms and examination centre at all hill district Headquarters, the joint student bodies of the five hill districts of Manipur announced to called 48 hrs general strike in hill districts starting affected from the midnight of September 23 till 25 said Stephen Disuang convenor of the joint student body here in Imphal.
The joint student bodies formed today regarding the TET issue are Churachandpur District Student Union (CDSU), Tangkhul Student Union (TSU), Naga Student Union Chandel (NSUC), Zaliangrong Student Union Manipur (ZSUM) and Senapati District Student Association (SDSA).
Speaking in a press conference held at the office of the Zeliangrong Student Union Manipur, located at Namdunlong (Panton), Convenor of the joint student bodies Stephen Disuang disclosed that the students union had submitted memorandum to the concerned education minister by demanding for establishment of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) examination centre and for distribution of TET forms in all district Headquarters of the hill districts since last year.
The convener further said that the student bodies is aware of the assurance gave by the Education Minister, government of Manipur, regarding the TET examination for opening of TET examination centre in all the district headquarters from next year, along with to extension of the last date of form submission.
However since last year, till today the hardship faced by the students of Hills district are still continues and so the joint coordination bodies will not pay any attentions about the government assurance from today onwards, instead, the bodies will works as per works done by the government he added.
