Education system improving : Minister
IMPHAL, Sep 26: While reiterating that efforts are on to ensure adequate facilities in educational institutions, Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro claimed that there is significant improvement in the State's education sector.
Speaking as the opening ceremony chief guest at the four-day annual Freshers, Literacy and Cultural Meet 2012-13 of Tamphasana Girls (TG) High School today, Minister Okendro stated that the ongoing process for conducting Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) is a part of the Government's move for improving the education sector.
He, however, regretted that activities of some disruptive elements had been posing as stumbling blocks in the Government's endeavour to lift the standard of education.
Maintaining that till date 40,000 candidates have applied for appearing the TET examination, the Minister questioned decision of certain student bodies who recently enforced bandh against the Government's effort to hold the TET.
Further informing that plans are on to set up a college in Moreh where academic interest of students from across the border would also be taken into account, the Minister assured that under the spirit of Right to Education Act atleast one higher secondary school would be established in each of the 60 assembly constituencies.
Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai Devi and MLA O Landhoni Devi, who also addressed the gathering called upon the students to concentrate on their studies so as to ensure a strong foundation of Manipur's future generation. Strongly advocating discipline amongst the students, they also stressed on the need for the students to explore their talents in various non-academic activities.
Recitation competition and staging of a court-yard play were the other highlights of the Meet's day.
