41st Foundation Day of RIMS held
Imphal Sep 14: Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was established 40 years ago on the 14th of September, 1972 as Regional Medical College, Imphal one of the best institute in the field of Medical Sciences in North East celebrates its 41st Foundation Day on Friday.
The celebration was held at the Jubille Hall of RIMS with the presence of Director General of Health Services Government of India Dr. Jagdish Prasad as Chief Guest and Former Vice Chancellor of Manipur University and MLA Ng. Bijoy Singh as President.
While addressing the report of the institute, Director RIMS, Prof S. Sekharjit Singh said that the institute was managed under the Ministry of Home then transferred to North Eastern Council and on 24th April 2007 it was taken over by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
So far, the institute has produced more than 2696 doctors, 913 specialist doctors and 26 M. Phil in Clinical Psychology. The institute has also an attached 1074 bedded hospital called RIMS Hospital which has 27 different departments.
RIMS has a nursing college from 2009 with the intake capacity of 50 students per year and the admission process of the 1st batch of BDS course in the dental college is almost complete added the Director.
Sekherjit further said that a landmark achievement of the institution is that the starting of construction of multi-storage modern OPD building in March 2012, 5 hostel and many other expansions with the approval of the ministry and executed by HSCC, Nodia. This will enable us to deal with the increase number of Post Graduate (PG) student, nursing and dental students and provide the much deserved proper accommodation to all categories of students.
And further added that for intake of MBBS student to 154 from the existing 100, heavy discussed at different level and hope that will come in a short periods.
Dr. Jagdish Prasad, Director General, Health Services, Government of India also lamented that although the state is under various circumstances, the Institute which served the humanity should not be retreated instead the institute needed to pressure the central government for more assistance for development. RIMS, has today become one of the famous Institute in Northeast regions, for more development we all needs cooperation, and especially public cooperation also, he added.
On the occasion of its foundation day, twenty five students of the institute who have secured highest marks, position holders, and Class toppers for 2011-2012 were felicitated with gold medals and cash awards. A souvenir was also released by the Chief Guest Dr. Jagdish Prasad. Functional President Prof. Ng. Bijoy Singh also released the annual magazine of the students “Remedy” at the observation.
