43 Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Manipur
Imphal Aug 30: In a first ever drive against illegal migrants by Manipur Police conducted under the supervision of L. Kailun, IGP of the state home department. The state police arrested at least 43 illegal migrants out of 170 today.

In today operation conducted in the four districts of the valley areas altogether 170 illegal Muslim migrants have been picked up by the state police department from various Muslim inhabited areas. Amongst them the police verified that 33 Muslim migrants are from Silchar, 32 from Bihar, 62 from West Bengal, 24 from Bangladesh and 19 Myanmaries from Lilong, Thoubal District.
According to police, the said operation was led by the IGP L. Kailun which started from 3 am today morning in those places where illegal migrants are mainly resided according to their sources.
Out of the 170 migrant, it also reported that, in today operation the police able to verify that from Imphal east Hatta Golapati a total of 24 Bangladeshi Muslim migrants were picked up and another 19 including two women and three children of Burma/Myanmar were also picked up by the police. The remaining is reported as from the other part of the country.
According to IGP-I (L&O) of Manipur Police, said the search operation was conducted after receiving specific information that some illegal migrants are present in the valley area.
IGP further mentioned that the arrested foreign Nationals will be dealt under Foreigner’s Act after further verifications. He also said that such drive will continue in the future too, said.
