Rights of a Student Campaign
Background :
Top quality higher education in Manipur still remains an unfulfilled dream after 65 years of independence. The region still remains in a state of doldrums with very limited opportunities for students to explore. As a result, children of the region have to move out of the state in pursuit of higher education. They move out with lot of hopes and dreams. But in the national mainframe, they have to face tremendous ostracism and mockery because rest of India considers northeast as backward and ignorant. The children of the region have to brave all odds and fight their way against discrimination and mockery. In some occasions, the children of the state have had to face situations of a more serious nature like that of Richard Loitam. In many cases, the colleges/institutions too indulge in unfair practices and our hapless children are left at the mercy of the unscrupulous institutions who make and break rules as per their whims and fancies. Children of the region find themselves alone and feeble. The cost of living, the cost of education takes its toll on them and they neither have the courage nor the finances to fight for their RIGHT.
PURPOSE of the CAMPAIGN :
In this background, Career CliniQ, a national student-parent non-profit advisory body from Northeast has taken up the responsibility to fight for the Right of the Students of Northeast. Over the past 3-4 years that Career CliniQ has been in active operation, it has realized that several times private colleges and institutions dupe students with false promises and impose illogical rules to extract/cheat students and parents of their hard earned money. This has become a regular phenomenon and practice all over India and the children of Northeast ends up being the worst sufferers. With the motto – “When injustice becomes the law, resistance becomes our duty” – Career CliniQ offers aid/help to students of the region to stand for their right and claim it. It is a nationwide initiative spurred by the organization with special emphasis towards the students of the Northeastern region who venture out to the far-off metropolitan cities of the country in pursuit of a better career. This body comprises of professionals, legal experts, students unions and political class of the region all of whom have pledged their undeterred support for the cause of the protection of the Students Rights. The Democratic Students' Alliance Of Manipur too have alleged their support for the cause.
Launch of the Campaign in Manipur :
The Manipur phase of the campaign took off with a formal discussion with the students, parents, media and general public at the NEEC Edufair held at Nupilal Hall, Imphal on June 11 & 12. Speaking on the occasion, Cd.Navmita Bhattacharjee, Shepherd of this mass campaign, stated – “Career CliniQ shall become the muscle of the Northeastern students who venture out for higher studies. They can pursuit their dreams with full zeal and strength. At any point of time if they feel that their rights have been eroded or they have been cheated, they may immediately contact our helpline numbers for assistance/aid. We shall be their strength in their pursuit of academic justice against the institutions who denies them their right. Our panel of voluntary legal experts would take up their case absolutely free of cost and hence the students can continue with their studies with their head held high and mind without fear.” People in general are welcome to meet the representatives of the organization during this period of 2days at the Edufair in Nupilal Hall, Imphal and share their problems or give their suggestions on how the campaign can be made more meaningful for the people of the region. The national helpline numbers of the organization are 01143852895 and 9207011653. They may also be contacted through their website at www.careercliniq.ind.in. This is a campaign of the students, for the students and by the experts of the region who stand for only 1cause – “The RIGHT of a Student”.
