President MOA Bijoy Koijam to lead India Youth Badminton Team in Asian Youth Championship

NEW DELHI , June 11 : Badminton Association of India selected the President of Manipur Badminton Association Bijoy Koijam as Manager to lead the Indian team for the Badminton Asia Youth Under-19 Championships 2012 scheduled to be held from June 30 to July 7 this year at Gimcheon Indoor Stadium in Gimcheon City, Korea to be organized by the Badminton Asia Confederation in association with Korean Badminton Association and local host- Gyeongbuk Badminton Association.
Badminton Association of India selected 18 junior players of nine boys and nine girls namely – Boys: C. Rohit Yadav (AAI/A.P.), Sameer Verma (AAI/M.P.), Pratul Joshi (AI/M.P.), Abhishek Yeligar (KTK), Arsalan Naqvi (U.P.), B.T.Hemanagendra (A.P.), G.Gopiraju (AI/A.P.), Santosh Ravuri (A.P.), Dewansh Jaishwal (C.G.), Girls: Aarthi Sara Sunil (KER), P.V. Sindhu (PSPB), Riya Pillai (MAH), G.Ruthvika Shivani (A.P.), Rituparna Das (W.B.), K.Maneesha (A.P.), J. Meghana (A.P.), Poorvisha S. Ram (KTK), Sara Naqvi (U.P.),
Two coaches of the Indian team were Abhinn Shyam Gupta, Chief Coach/ juniors and Hendra Mulyano, SAI Foreign Coach. Dr. Yogesh Shetty, Physiotherapist will also accompany the Indian team as supporting staff.
Bijoy Koijam, who is also the President of Manipur Olympic Association and currently in New Delhi said that the President of Badminton Association of India(BAI) Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta agreed in principle to open a Badminton Academy in Manipur with appointment of foreign coaches during his recent meeting. The President of BAI informed him that the physical structure of Manipuris would be fitted for shuttlers.
“Manipur will host the Junior National Tournament for Boys and Girls Under-17 and Under-19 from November 10 to 18 in Imphal under the auspices of the Badminton Association of India”, Koijam said.
