Manipuri militant arrested in Odisha
Imphal, May 29: According to a report by Hindustan Times, a national newspaper, a top militant from Manipur’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was arrested by a team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested from Ganjam district in Odisha.
The report said that SS Angou (40), the external affairs chief of PLA, was arrested on Monday evening by an NIA team from Gopalpur, about 170km south-east of Bhubaneswar,with the help of Berhampur police.
The militant is allegedly involved in many crimes in Manipur, Myanmar and Nepal.
“Angou was arrested when he came to meet his wife here,” Berhampur police SP Safeen Ahmed told the Hindustan Times, adding that police did not find any evidence of his links with local Maoists.
Angou was produced before a local magistrate late in the night before being taken away to New Delhi by the NIA team on a transit remand, sources said.
Sources said for a long time the NIA had been trailing Angou who often visited his wife, a government employee, and had informed about his movement to the Berhampur police, the newspaper reported.
The report mentioned that when Angou came to meet his wife this time, the Berhampur police informed the NIA after detaining him.
