Manipur to get a dental college from this academic session
Imphal, May 30: Manipur is going to have its first Dental college on the campus of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal in the foreseeable future. The first batch students are likely to be admitted for the 2012 session.
Sources said that the RIMS authority has almost completed appointing the officials and bought all equipments including the dental chairs. Preparations have been made to welcome the inspection team of the Dental Council of India by the first week of June. It is believed that the DCI officials will find everything satisfactory and in order. The opening of the Dental college will be yet another feather in the hat of RIMS which has been rendering public service for the last 40 years. It may be recalled that College of Nursing had already been opened to provide nursing education to the students of the NE states.
As in case of the nursing students the Dental College will be of big help to the students. Like the nursing education the Dental college is also expensive. Being the host state Manipur gets 20 seats in the College of Nursing. Sources said that using the same yardstick Manipur will get a good number of seats in the Dental College also.
Dr T. Nabachandra who is now in charge of Dental College is leaving no stone unturned to open the college as soon as possible, There is also a Dental College Development Committee. Prof N. Damayanti, head of the Anatomy department, who has been the moving force behind the College of Nursing is closely associated with the spade works of the Dental college.
Prof S. Sekharjit, Director of RIMS, is extending all possible assistance to the Dental College Development Committee with the result that there is no stumbling block. Once the Dental College is opened many stuents of the NE states in general and those of Manipur in particular will be benefitted.
