Zeliangrong bodies submit memorandum to PM on road construction

IMPHAL, November 6: A memorandum signed by gen secy, Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur) Poudinlung Riamei and gen secy Zeliangrong Youth Front (AMN) Subash Kamei oppsoign the decision of the government of India to entrust the state Public Works Department to take over the construction work of Khongshang-Tamenglong road from the Border Road Organization has been submitted to the Prime Minister of India.

The memorandum said the undersigned, representatives of the apex organization of the Zeliangrong people though during the year between 2004 to 2006, the government had provided Rs 45 crores as backward package in the manner of Rashtriya Sam Vikash Yojona (RSVY) for taking up different development activities in Tamenglong district, the Govt. of India has committed a great mistake this time by taking a decision to hand over the Khongshang-Tamenglong road (40 Km distance) to Manipur State Public Works Department instead of Border Road Organization (BRO).

It said, “The people of Tamenglong district have come to know the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways taking a decision in a meeting held on September 5, 2013 under the chairmanship of secretary Road Transport and Highways to hand over the said road construction works to Manipur State PWD in place of BRO with the Ministry of RT&H dated September 6, 2013”.

“By taking such a decision against the wish of the people has shown the Govt. of India has adopted a policy of anti-people, anti-development, etc.  As the Govt. of India might have well aware that the district does not have linked or connected with airways, seaways, railways or helicopters service but only road ways played vital connectivity. Now the road connectivity will be obstructed by the Govt. of India wrongful decision,” it claimed.

In the event of Govt. of India’s failure to re-consider and withdraw the decision in the interest of the people, and having no confidence upon the Govt. of India pertaining to grievances of the people of the district, and having no alternative option to express discontentment, the people of the district may approach any competent law court in the interest of the citizen of this part of the country in order to get justice, it said.
