Incompetent CM should step down on moral ground: BJP

IMPHAL, November 2: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has no moral right to cling to his chair if he cannot protect the lives and property of the public, opined BJP national secretary, Tapir Gao.

The BJP national secretary was addressing a press meet convened today at BJP Manipur office, Keishampat.

Noting the spate of bomb blasts taking place in Imphal recently, Tapir Gao said that Manipur’s law and order system has broken down totally due to inactive intelligence network resulting even in loss of innocent lives.

Such cowardice acts targeting civilians is condemned by the BJP, he said further urging the Ibobi-led government to take full responsibility for all such violence.

Referring to current dispute along Indo-Myanmar border, Tapir Gao stated that the Ibobi-led government has openly cheated the people of Manipur and the nation.

Showing his concern over the border impasse, he said that Ibobi has repeated a similar blunder as that of Nehru’s controversial handing over of Kabaw valley to Myanmar.

The border fencing across the Yainganpokpi Lokcha Wildlife Sanctuary has also created an atmosphere of distrust, apprehension and restiveness in the minds of the people of Manipur, said Tapir Gao.

He pointed out that the state wildlife advisory board chaired by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh had given clearance for utilising the land for construction of border fencing inside the Yainganpokpi Lokchao Wildlife sanctuary during the period of 2006-07.

For this purpose a sum of Rs 503.68 lakh had already been compensated by the MHA, GOI for Compensatory Afforestation Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) formed by the Supreme Court of India under the administrative control of Ministry of Environment and Forest and the same had been deposited to the state Forest department, Government of Manipur, he said.

“BJP wants to know where such work had been taken up”, questioned the BJP national secretary.

Meanwhile, Th Chaoba, president BJP Manipur Pradesh, announced that the BJP will not endorse the memo drafted by the all political party, if it does not include removal of wrong fencing and structures at the disputed international border.

“We do not take the matter lightly and have apprised the Government of India and the concerned ministry on the same. Moreover, the matter will also be put up at the Parliament,” added Tapir Gao.

While addressing those involved in armed movement as ‘misguided brothers and sisters’, he made his observation that the UGs too must have the desire to bring changes in the state.

Noting the prolonged imposition of AFSPA to counter militancy, which have resulted in unwanted outcomes, Tapir Gao, contended that the failure to resolve the vexed issue was due to lack of political will by central leaders of the Congress.
