Awareness Campaign on Mother and Child Health held at Tml
IMPHAL, November 8: An “Awareness Campaign on Mother and Child Health” was held today at the District Hospital, Tamenglong under the theme: “Towards a Healthy World for Mother and Child.”
The programme was organised by Rogi Kalyan Samiti, District Hospital under the aegis of the District Health Mission Society, Tamenglong.
The function was attended by Joseph Pauline, ADM, Tamenglong as Chief Guest and Dr. Chambo Gonmei, CMO/Mission director, DHMS, Tamenglong as the President of the function. Around 250 mothers and children also attended the campaign.
In his address to the gathering the Chief Guest exhorted the mothers to avail the various health schemes being implemented by the government in the health sector to the fullest to ensure safe and healthy delivery of new borns and in bringing up healthy children for a better society. He also emphasised the role of fathers in maternal and child health.
The president of the function, Dr. Chambo Gonmei, CMO, Tamenglong in his keynote address emphasised the urgent need for blood bank, specialists doctors, especially, obstetrician & gynaecologists, pediatricians, anaesthetists and general surgeons to be posted for smooth functioning of the OT at District Hospital and implementation of various other health programmes in the entire district, as the Surgical Outreach camps which are being conducted from time to time may not be sustainable in the future due to various technical and geographical aspects.
He also expressed his intention of organising such awareness campaigns in all the blocks of the district with the objective of reaching out healthcare to every doorstep of the villages.
Also, Medical Officers posted at different centres in the district spoke on various topics concerning mother and child health during the programme.
Dr. Bonthaoliu Gangmei, MO i/c, District Hospital spoke on the functioning, implementation and status of Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) and Janani Suraksha Yojna (JSY) in the district and also spoke on RTI/STI Dr. Guidiathiu Kahmei, MO, DH, Tamenglong spoke on Anti Retroviral Therapy, and the functioning and progress of the ART centre for availing such therapy which was recently inaugurated at the District Hospital, Tamenglong on the 31st of October, 2013 by C. Arthur W, Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong.
