CNPO’s Indefinite Chandel Bandh suspended temporarily, likely to resume

Chandel, April, 24: The indefinite Chandel district bandh imposed by the Chandel Naga People’s Organization w.e.f midnight of April 19 has been suspended on the fifth day today. The decision to suspend the stir arrived following a special and a high level ‘emergency Civil Societies Organization crucial meeting’ which was convened by CNPO today and attended by several civil societies organization leaders, Chiefs and NWUC, informed BD Betha Anal General Secretary of CNPO.

According to the source, the decision to suspend the stir was taken during today’s meeting which deliberated various issues pertaining to the indefinite bandh in the light of CNPO demand for shifting of KYKL (MDF) from 20 BN Assam Rifles located in the heart of Chandel town. The meeting decided to suspend the bandh for a time being after considering the adverse impact on the lives of the common people and their sufferings because of it and for the sake of strengthening its demand in a peaceful and genial atmosphere within a given time, However, the Chandel Naga People’s Organization will resume its own course of agitation from midnight of May 5 if the Govt. continues to sleep over the crucial issues haunting the people of Chandel added the source.

The special high level meeting today also formed a committee under the name of ‘Committee against sheltering valley based insurgents in Chandel District’ consisting of convenor, co-convenor and several members. According to the source this committee will formulate plan and policies, choke out strategies to what can be done if the govt fails to fulfill the present standing demand. This committee has been endorsed by the special meeting of today to prepare memorandum to be submitted to the  Concerned authority for fulfilling the long standing demand of shifting KYKL (MDF) surrendered from 20 BN Assam Rifles located in the heart of Chandel town.

Wng Victor Kohring anal former CNPO General Secretary and the president of ANTA now also informed this correspondent, that the meeting had expressed deep concern over the matter of the Hon’ble Chief Minister who refuse to offer appointment to the circle MLA Nunghlung Victor who is the representative of Chandel people when the latter approach him to discuss the crucial and burning issues. He termed it as a clear indication of Hon’ble Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh as divisive, being partial, communal and irresponsible.
