GUWAHATI, October 12: Chairman UNLF RK Meghan during the court appearance before the NIA Court Guwahati said that the NIA court had mentioned that UNLF used illegal means in achieving their goal. He said that there has to be legal means in fighting for the restoration of sovereignty of a state. He elaborated that the objective of liberation struggle is the restoration of sovereignty and independence.

RK Meghan @ Sanayaima said that they have nothing to demand from the GOI as Manipur was independent country before the merge with India in 1949. He further said that Manipur was never part of India. He elaborated that hence it is not illegal to fight for the restoration of sovereignty. He said “what we want is what was ours, what ought to be ours and what should be ours”
UNLF chairman said that the conflict problem was created by the GOI in the way back in 1949 when India force the king of Manipur to sign for the merger and Manipur was annexed into the Union of India. He further said that according to the new constitution of Manipur any agreement signed by king or council of minister need to be rectify by the assembly but India failed to rectify the agreement.
RK Meghan said that people of Manipur still stand by the decision that the merger agreement was null and void. Further he said that in January 2005 the UNLF proposed a democratic solution to the conflict that plebiscite to be held under the supervision of UN.
UNLF leader said that Manipur-India conflict cannot be decided by a single or group of organisations because it involves the future of Manipur so it has to be decided by the people of Manipur.
He further said that the problem face by the state is understood by many countries in the world so the UNLF do have many sympathisers spread all over the world.
UNLF Chairman said that it is very paradox that India as the largest democratic country in the world do not accept the democratic proposals from the UNLF. Chairman later lauded those ITians from Manipur who worked in Bangalore.
He lauded that they resigned from their work and started KOK SAM LAI Pvt. Ltd. in Manipur. He said that it is encouraging that they started en enterprise in Manipur contributing in the economy of Manipur. He further appealed that any group must not exhort and harass them.
