Tremors felt in Manipur and NE states
Imphal, July1: A
moderate magnitude earthquake of 5.9MLrocked the entire part of
Manipur and Nagaland. The earthquake which was triggered at
a mild tremor also took place in Manipur. It shook parts of the state at 9.45 am was felt at.
The epicentre was located at Manipur-Nagaland boundary (Ukhrul and Phek
districts)in the North-eastern part of Manipur about 110 km from Imphal. The
depth of the earthquake as estimated is 60 km.
The Met office said that a "moderate" quake of 5.8 on the Richter Scale occurred in Phek in Nagaland at 9.44 am. Phek is located 80 kms east of Kohima and the focal depth of the tremor was 50 kms, it said.
The impact of the tremor was felt all over Nagaland and people were seen running out of their houses in Kohima.
A report from Shillong said people, including those visiting churches, came out to open areas following the quake.
Officials said there was no immediate report of any casualty or damage in any of the north eastern states.
