Kishore Chandra Deo Visits Tribal Crafts Expo ‘Aadishilp’


New Delhi, January 30, 2013: The Union Minister of Tribal Affairs and Panchayati Raj V. Kishore Chandra Deo visited the National Tribal Crafts Expo ‘Aadishilp’ at Dilli Haat today. He interacted with tribal artists at the 78 stalls put up at the craft fair. He appreciated the work of the artisans enquired about the working conditions of the participants, benefits derived from this event and the innovations happening in their traditional field.

The 16-day Crafts Expo ‘Aadishilp’ is being organised by the Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED), functions under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The Expo focuses on the country’s tribal artisans. Exquisite and varied hand-made articles from the seven sister-states of north eastern India i.e., Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura occupy two dozen of the stalls. The main objective of the event is to give tribal artisans an opportunity to display their ethnic works. The TRIFED expects a turnover of over Rs 75 lakh from the ‘Aadishilp’ concluding tomorrow.

The TRIFED Managing Director, Jiji Thomson was also present on the occasion. He said that Aadishilp has provided tribal artisans a platform for direct interface with art lovers and share their talent with the urban elite and know their taste and preferences.
