DoNER Ministry to fund ADCs
IMPHAL, Nov 9 : The Ministry of DoNER has agreed to provide certain amounts of fund for development of infrastructure for the six Autonomous District Councils of Manipur.
A highly placed source informed that DoNER Secretary Amarjit Singh Lamba presided an official meeting today at New Delhi and discussed on extending financial assistance for infrastructure development of ADCs from Special Infrastructure Development Fund.
During the meeting which was also attended by Chief Secretary DS Poonia, the DoNER Ministry agreed to the proposal for financial assistance of Rs 738.15 lakhs for Ukhrul ADC, Rs 540 lakhs for Senapati ADC and a similar amount for Sadar Hills ADC.
Similar proposals for Chandel ADC and Chura-chandpur ADC were also tabled at the meeting. For the remaining ADCs, the State Government officials were asked to come up with a proposal within a week.
Meanwhile, it is reported that DoNER Secretary Amarjit Singh Lamba would visit Manipur from November 29 to December 1 during which projects taken up under DoNER Ministry in Manipur would be reviewed.
Notably, except for Sadar Hills and Churachandpur, all other ADCs are functioning with their offices at Imphal.
On the other hand, it is informed that boys’ and girls’ hostels would be constructed at Karong in Senapati district and a playground with gallery would be constructed at Parbung in Churachandpur district with funding from the North East Council.
A meeting of the NEC Standing Committee held on November 6 at Shillong agreed to sanction Rs 5.17 crores for construction boys’ and girls’ hostels at Karong.
It further decided to sanction another Rs 7.197 crores for construction of a playground with gallery at Parbung.
NEC further gave its consent to sanction Rs 4.12 crores for procuring Science laboratory and library materials for High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools of the State.
