“Disabled facilities in some districts misused”

IMPHAL, November 14: The Association of Persons with Disabilities has alleged that the president of the All Tribal Disabled Union Manipur, ATDUM Momo Tangtanga has misused the facilities of disabled persons for some districts.

Speaking to media persons in a press meet held at the Manipur Press Club today, the Association of Persons with Disabilities president Chungmi Ragui clarified on the charges against him by Momo Tangtanga that he is a self-appointed president, he said that he was selected according to the formalities of the association.

Further, Chungmi Ragui alleged that Momo Tangtanga had boycotted medical assessment cum identification camp for disabled persons in Senapati and Ukhrul districts conducted by the Social Welfare department but had only allowed it in namesake.

President of Senapati Disabled People Association Manipur, S Hingba Aloysius who was also at the press meet said that in Senapati district 16 posts for Primary Teachers are reserved for disabled persons. Out of these Tangtanga has reserved six for his own people. He has however, provided the posts to two candidates but have not provided the other four even after taking money Rs 3,30,000 from the four for the said post.

He further charged that Momo has set up his own association under ATDUM, distancing himself from the districts associations. Momo is using all the funds received by ATDUM and his associations for his own gains.

Chungmi Ragui also appealed that funds and facilities for disabled persons should be distributed district wise.

Concerned department should be held responsible if the funds and facilities for the disabled person are found misused.
