Committee on ILP demands clarification from Hindu on report
IMPHAL, November 21: A team consisting of seven members of ‘the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System’ has left Imphal for Delhi today to organize a sit-in-protest infront of the Jantar Mantar, on November 25 from 11 am till 4 pm, as announced earlier by the committee, demanding reimplementation of the Inner Line Permit in Manipur.
Meanwhile, the committee has also demanded a clarification from the national daily “The Hindu” to be carried on in November 22 frontpage regarding a news report which had termed the committee as “a committee formed by some underground organisations.”
This was informed by the convenor of the committee, Sapamcha Jadumani, at a press conference held today at its office at Keishampat before the team left Imphal.
He further said that representatives of various political parties of the state including, civil organizations and student bodies will join them in their demonstration at Delhi.
On the same day i.e. November 25, a sit-in-protest will be staged at Ima Keithel organised by the joint committee on Inner Line Permit system.
Meanwhile regarding the news report of the Hindu, the convener has informed that unless the newspaper makes the clarification in its November 22 issue regarding its news report carried under the headline “Manipur extremists to issue permit for non locals’, the committee will put a blanket ban on the newspaper in the state.
Though the Hindu report was published under its Manipur correspondent Iboyaima Laithangbam’s name, the correspondent who was present during the press conferenece maintained that the report he sent was completely different from what was published.
He also said that he have spoken with his office regarding the matter.
