Assam Rifles seize banned drugs

Imphal, Nov 14: Receiving continuous information over a period of time, troops of 9 Assam Rifles, HQ 26 Sector Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR (South) yet again prevented the smuggling of illegal substances and ceased the movement of such items into Indo-Myanmar bordering town Moreh and surrounding areas on Wednesday.

According to the information received here, acting on specific input received from reliable source regarding smuggling of banned Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride Tablets in gen area New Mongjang, a swift search operation was launched by troops of 9 Assam Rifles for about an hours span of time in the evening.

During the course of the search operation in general area New Mongjang, at around 2.30pm the troops recovered approximate 75 Kg of banned Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride Tablets which was lying abandoned in general area New Mongjang hidden in a seasonal Nala. Cost of the unclaimed banned Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride Tablets is approximately Rs.45,00,000/- (Rupees forty five lakhs only). The recovered unclaimed banned Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride Tablets being handed over to office of the NCB, Imphal for further investigation.

The large seizure of banned medicines is sure to come as a severe blow to the persons involved in such illegal trade which will discourage these unauthorized activities.
