Second Foundation Day of Sports Injury Centre Celebrated

New Delhi, Oct 9: The 2nd Foundation Day of Sports Injury Centre was celebrated at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi today. The centre was inaugurated on 26th September 2010 by Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. The centre provides comprehensive diagnostic, surgical and rehabilitative services for sports injury and joint disorders. 

Addressing the Foundation Day as Chief Guest, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare said that it is one of the great ventures of his Ministry. It is first of its kind in India and South-East Asia. Building construction and installation of equipments were completed in a record time of 12 months. More such centres will be established in different parts of the country during 12th Plan period.

Talking about healthcare facilities in the country, Shri Azad said 6 more AIIMS-like institutes have been established. The places where these institutes have been established are Patna, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Raipur and Rishikesh. These institutes will now provide healthcare facilities to people. 

Shri Azad also inaugurated an exhibition showcasing the activities of the centre. Shri R. K. Pradhan, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India presided over the meeting. 

Several sports personalities including cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi also attended the celebration.
