Kangpokpi CHC neglected
IMPHAL, October 1: Locals of Kangpokpi came out and staged a sit in protest inside the Community Health Centre, Kangpokpi decrying the government apathy towards the condition of the CHC.
The sit in protest was organized by Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Youth Union and the Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization alongwith some private schools of the area.
The agitators later called a press conference at the same venue.
Speaking to media persons, Kangpokpi Town Committee, chairman Chonkam Kipgen said the CHC is facing problems on all fronts and had apprised the government several times in past which seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
Elaborating on the necessities of the CHC, he continued that the centre was upgraded to a Community Health Centre in 1988 from a Primary Health Centre and since its upgradation, the government has totally neglected it.
He briefed media persons that there are only four doctors in the CHC even though there were supposed to be atleast 12 at the CHC.
He continued that locals have submitted several memorandums in the past which seem to have fallen in deaf ears.
He further demanded that the government should place atleast 10 doctors including three specialists at the CHC considering the needs of the people of the area.
He continued that the CHC lacks specialist doctors for consultant, staff nurses, grade IV staffs, clerical staffs for District Immunization Officer among others.
The CHC also lacks ante-natal ward/maternity/post delivery ward, doctors on duty rooms, childrens ward, water supply, proper drainage system, separate toilets for patients (Male and female) and staff.
There is also an immediate need for the appointment of a District AIDS Officer at the earliest as the Kangpokpi area is very high in the number HIV affected patients.
He also said that since the CHC lies along the roadside, there is an immediate need of boundary walls around the centre.
